Growing the future
Matipo Farm spans 453 hectares across five distinct blocks, with two located on Rakaia Island and the other three nearby. The Rakaia Island blocks are fully irrigated using solid set irrigation and feature scattered kowhai and manuka, along with free-draining soils. The three external blocks utilise a combination of pivot, linear move, and sub-surface drip irrigation systems on fertile silt loam soils, perfect for cultivating a variety of crops. While primarily focused on growing pasture and raising dairy youngstock, Matipo Farms also produces Wattie’s peas, kale, and cereal silage. Each year, the goal is to integrate 1,170 replacement in-calf heifers into the herd, ensuring continued growth and sustainability. Led by Duncan Bridgman and supported by dedicated team of three.
